How To Profit From A Losing Investment

I have a story to share…

My first investment was a complete loss – it went to zero. Yes, you now have definitive proof that I was not born an investment genius. As a matter of fact, if you judge by results then I was born an investment idiot because you can’t do worse than lose everything.

You should take solace from this fact because I went on to build my wealth through investing, and all the knowledge I gained to pull that off is something you can learn as well. I wasn’t born a skilled investor and I don’t have any inherent aptitude as evidenced by my first foray into investing. It is all a learned skill which you can duplicate if you want to.

In this new feature article I share the story of my first investment and all the things I did wrong to lose 100% of my capital. The lessons learned from all the mistakes I made provided the foundation for all the successful investing I have done since. It provided an invaluable education that I remain grateful for to this day… even though it was a painful experience at the time. Now you can learn from that same experience – vicariously.

There are two things you want to learn from this story:

  1. Losing investments can be great teachers.
  2. The key to extracting value from losing investments is how you manage them when they occur.

These are essential lessons for every investor to understand.

The truth is I’ve made more investment mistakes and incurred more losses in my investment career than anyone would want to read about. It is a natural part of the investment process that every investor must endure. Each provided valuable instruction in how NOT to invest if consistent profits are your goal.

Fortunately, you can learn these lessons vicariously from my experience and not have to personally endure the same pain and losses I went through. Besides, it can be very entertaining to see just how foolish a self-proclaimed investment expert can be when they are still learning the ropes. So please join me as I reveal all the foolish mistakes I made to lose 100% on my first investment
