Slogan Contest

I’m baffled and need your help…

For as long as I’ve been coaching and writing about financial issues I’ve tried to come up with a catchy slogan that captures the essence of what is unique about what I do. The problem is I’m just too close to it all. I’m stuck inside my own head as the creator of this beast and can’t see what you see from the outside. I need the help of my readers to tell me what is unique and desirable about what I do here… in a slogan form.

My first slogan was “Your Guide On The Path To Financial Freedom”. It was okay from a descriptive standpoint but didn’t do a very good job of capturing what was unique about my message. It never described what made me stand out from the crowd and why you should bother listening. Also, it was not very hooky. It didn’t draw you in.

My second and current slogan is “Tranform Yourself. Transform Your Wealth”. The illiterative nature of this slogan is interesting and qualifies as standing out from the crowd, but I don’t consider it very hooky. It just isn’t drawing people in and making them say “Wow, I want some of that!” Personal transformation doesn’t elicit that kind of response.

So I’m calling out to you. I’m stuck. I’ve tried and tried. I have file folders filled with slogan ideas, yet none of them are winners. Maybe you can break the stalemate…

A will judge the winning slogan according to the following features:

  • It will be brief – just a few words or less like the above examples.
  • It will describe what is unique about my message. Why listen to me? How am I different?
  • It will be hooky. People will respond subconsciously to the slogan by thinking “Wow, I want some of that!”

It is important that you don’t judge or edit your ideas yourself. I want this to be an online brainstorming session where anything goes. If you edit yourself it may keep your winning idea from ever reaching me. It is more important for me to see your thoughts about what makes this blog stand out, even if not perfectly phrased, than to edit yourself and not provide feedback just because you didn’t think you had it perfectly figured out.

In other words, the ideas you express are more important than the exact phraseology. I really want to know what is unique about my message and why you spend your valuable time reading this blog. Only you can tell me that, and I will never know unless you tell me. Clever phraseology is a plus but not a requirement.

If you come up with the winner I will not only remain forever beholden to you and bow with undying gratitude for your infinite wisdom, but I will also provide you with free coaching, free ebooks, recognition in my blog as the genius who solved this mystery, and/or anything else that makes this worth your while and is reasonable. In other words, if you get me what I want then I will work with you to make sure you get what you want.

This is important to me so I would really appreciate your input. I don’t ask for favors often, but I really need your help.

Please place your ideas in the blog comments below or you can email them to me at (todd) at <financialmentor> dot (com). Please put “slogan contest” in the subject line so I can rescue your email from all the filters that protect my” in” basket.

Thank you in advance to the winner. Maybe it will be you…

Transforming YOUr Wealth

Hi Todd,

A little too general for me... everyone has their own definition of what True wealth is.

A couple variations to play with...

True financial education leads to True Wealth

True financial education leads to financial freedom which is the first step o true wealth.
(a little long)

Be well, DJ

The Untold truth's of finances

@ Iboro and Rebecca - Thank you for your suggestions. Much appreciated.

Here is one I came up with that I'm wondering what people think...

"Financial Freedom Is Just The First Step To True Wealth"

How does that hit you? Please give me feedback...

My sogan:

The fnancial decisions you make today, will become tommorows treasures.

THANK MENTOR FINANCES AND DIRECT YOUR FURTURE.

*SLOGAN BY REBECCA JACKSON

I want to thank everyone for their participation and feedback by bringing a conclusion to the slogan contest. While I didn't get a replacement slogan I did get something just as valuable... a better understanding of how you (my readers) view what I do here. Your perceptions and insights were deeply appreciated.

While I'm still not settled on the current tagline for this site, none of the new offerings offered a compelling enough improvement to force change. I have a file folder full of ideas but none has caught my attention. I know the winner is out there somewhere, and some day it will surface and announce itself...

Thank you again for all your feedback. It was really great to learn what value you get from my writing and how you view me. I really appreciate your support.

Todd:

"Don't get suckered, get educated, and get wealthy"

Your site takes all the bs out and really allows us to be mentored financially without you profiting directly like the rest of the "experts" aka snake oil salesmen... Education is what you bring and it helps us get wealthy. Maybe my slogan is a bit too much moxy. But I sense that it is hooky enough.

Todd

@DJ - Thanks for the additional suggestions.

What I'm noticing so far is a real lack of consensus among all the different suggestions. Each comment is emphasizing a different attribute of what I do. For example, DJ's ideas emphasize the relevancy of the current turbulent times. Other comments emphasize my experience, analytical skills, balanced life, or any number of other things. It is all over the board.

I'm not seeing a theme come out of this discussion to stand on. Maybe I'm missing it...

What do you think???

Todd,

Here a few ideas to keep the thread moving forward...

Financial Wisdom that guides(leads)you to a lifetime of financial freedom/independence

Proven Financial Strategies for Turblent Times

Financial Guidance for the 21st Century

Financial Sherpa for Uncertain Times

Unbias Financial Guidance for the 21st Century

Financial Intelligence that Leads to Positive Cash Flow

@ Steve - Thanks for the feedback!

There are several key ideas I heard in your comments...

Unconventional or non-mainstream.

Analytical or Quantitative.

Actual results

Other key ideas that have stuck with me from other writers comments and emails include...

Experienced (depth of experience)

Advanced (personal finance)

Mentor/coach (for support and guidance)

Accelerate (the path to financial security)

Hmmm.... are these concept bringing up any ideas for anyone?

Todd,

I find people asking me this same question when I talk about your website and investment philosophy/wealth building strategies. Here is the short version of my typical 3 part answer:

Unconventional Analysis, Quantitative Reasoning, Amazing Results

I have also used the following substitutions:

Non-mainstream Core, Quantitative Decisions/Actions, Astounding Returns

This is usually coupled with a quick sketch of your wiggly line theory and people really seem to get it.

Hope this helps!

Steve

Here are some more ideas from the email I'm receiving.

Denis offered up the following...

discovering the path to financial freedom

distilling the spirit of financial adventure

pathways to successful living

patterns for prosperity

transforming daydreams into successful living

keys to releasing your prosperity: wisdom for successful wealth management

learning from experience: success in wealth creation

bringing a wealth of experience to managing your wealth

helping you realize your dreams

preparing for a confident future

And Bridget suggested...

Coaching Your Way To A Balanced, Early Retirement.

What does everybody think? Are there any clear winners in any of the above that resonate with you? Which slogans do you respond most strongly to?

Thanks

@Mike and Dave - Thanks for all the suggestions. Lot's of great ideas.

I'm also real interested in people expressing what my message stands for in their mind even if they don't have it in slogan form.

For example, some of the emails talked about "advanced personal finance" even though they never used that slogan. Others discussed how they like my analytical approach. Still others stated they were attracted to the balance I conveyed between financial issues and personal life issues.

This kind of feedback is every bit as valuable as the slogans because it points me in a direction - particularly if a consensus forms that people can get behind. I really want to know what I stand for in my readers minds.

So again, let's keep the ideas flowing and see where this goes.

I'm enjoying the feedback and ideas.

Todd: I have three more ideas for you to ponder.

"Financial Solutions For A Better Tomorrow"

"Quantum Leap Solutions For Your Financial Future"

"Quantum Leap Solutions To A Better Financial Life"

Dave

@ Dave - Thanks for adding your thoughts to this discussion. Keep the ideas flowing...

Also, in the emails I'm getting some words repeated from various people include "balanced" and "advanced" as in a balanced approach to wealth building and advanced personal finance.

Are those ideas ringing with anyone? How would you work them into a tag line? What do they mean to you? Is that "it", or is it something else?

Another person said I'm "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."

Is that it?

Please add your thoughts to this discussion...

Thanks,

Quick thoughts; hopefully it helps:

Todd: How about "Financial Transformation For Your Future"? As I think of more I will send them to you. Thank you.

Dave

@Jodie - Thanks for the online feedback to get this discussion rolling. I'm getting lots of emails from people so I thought I would add a few ideas selected from various emails as well...

Amy liked the illiterative effect of "Transform yourself. Transform your wealth" but thought I should change the word "transform" to something more direct like grow or expand.

Bridget had lots of helpful feedback that gave me greater understanding of the value I offer and how I am positioned as well as offering up the slogan "Coaching Your Way To A Balanced Early Retirement".

Pedro provided helpful feedback and offered several ideas including "I help you get wealthy", "Building Wealth Thru the Road Less Traveled", and "Wealth made easy" among others.

So thank you to all who have responded so far. We have a good start.

If you haven't thrown in your two cents worth... don't be shy. The discussion won't be complete without you. I really want to hear your thoughts.

Thanks...
