Write For Us

Thank you for your interest in guest posting for Financial Mentor…

Please read the following guidelines carefully. A well crafted post that meets the following criteria has the best chance for acceptance…

  • High Standard: The number one criteria for publication is the post must add amazing value to my reader’s lives. My philosophy is this site’s reputation is only as good as the last post sent. That means every post must be extraordinary. No fluff posts or drabble that has been rehashed 100′s of times on other sites. A typical writer for this blog is a financial blogger or professional who knows the financial blogging space and knows what is unique, compelling, and original.
  • On Target: This blog is about helping people build wealth and invest smarter while leading balanced, fulfilling lives. My readers are pretty high-end including professional money managers and other successful financial bloggers. They have “been there – done that” with traditional financial advice. The post should be advanced, comprehensive, or provide a clever twist that makes me think “Wow, I didn’t know that” or “Gee, that is clever and interesting”. Articles where I react with “Oh, I’ve seen that 100 times already” serve nobody. I’m looking for compelling articles written with clear authority and expertise.
  • Read First: Before you try and write something for this site please read the content to get a feel for the tone, style and target market.
  • No Permission Needed: You don’t need to pitch me on an article idea or get my approval to submit an article. Just go ahead and write the article and submit it. Skip the pitch.
  • Quality Writing:It should go without saying that the post must be well written… but you would be surprised. Writing quality is the number one reason post submissions get rejected.
    • I have no interest in articles developed by professional writers out of India and the Philippines where grammar and word usage is awkward.
    • If you’re into article spinning then don’t bother submitting.
    • I don’t want articles about credit cards, debt consolidation, debt negotiations, bankruptcy or other spammy type posts designed to promote CPA oriented sites.
What I do want is quality articles written by quality writers with a unique message to share that adds amazing value to my reader’s lives and is on target for my audience. The ideal guest post writer is another established blogger in the personal finance space who would like to reach out to my audience with a really great article or a reader with an interesting story or experience to share.
  • Editing: My preference is to publish guest posts that require no editing. I may occasionally make small edits but if significant work is required the post will simply be returned.
  • Post Length: Your post should be as long as necessary to convey your message – but no longer. I’ve published articles that print as long as 20 pages and as short as 250 words. Length is not the criteria – writing quality and content quality is.
  • Original: The article must be 100% original and unpublished. It must be exclusive to Financial Mentor and not appear in substantially similar form elsewhere. No exceptions.
  • Blatant Self-Promotion: We both know your goal with a guest post is to promote your business or blog by expanding your reach. I’m cool with that. However, to get published you must honor my goal by adding amazing value to my reader’s lives through your writing. Blatant self-promotion will not be accepted – subtlety works best. Your guest post should follow the proven formula of “give great value and the reader will be motivated to follow”.
  • Backlinks: A maximum of 2-3 backlinks to your site are acceptable and other backlinks to authority sites and referenced resources are encouraged as well. Make sure all anchor text for backlinks reads naturally and flows logically in the text and Author Resource box. If a backlink is contained within the article body make sure it is relevant and adds value. The ideal guest blogger will be backlinking to a legitimate site with a unique and valuable message (i.e. no affiliate backlinks or CPA site backlinks). Each backlink will be checked to make sure it is referring to a quality, established web site and the page referenced by the link is high quality and adds value to my readers and the article.
  • Byline: Please include a brief author resource box with at least 1 of the allowed back-links so my readers can easily learn more about you if they like your article. It will be added to the end of the article when the article is posted.
  • Submission Guidelines: When submitting an article please include it in the body of the email so that I can quickly glance over it. Also include a fully HTML formatted text file (Notepad or equivalent) that I can use for cutting and pasting when it comes time to publish. The author resource box text, title tag, keyword tag, and description tag should be included at the end of the article files as well. If you have photos or image files for the article please include those as well in a separate file – please don’t paste them into your post document. Basically, your submission should contain everything necessary so that it is complete and ready-to-go for publishing with all files and information included.
  • Where To Submit: Send to todd (-at-) financialmentor [=dot=] com. Make sure to write “Guest Post” in the subject line so that if it gets trapped in my spam folders I will likely rescue it.

Again, I thank you for honoring this site and my readers with your brilliant writing. I also thank you for respecting my time by sending only posts that clearly follow these guidelines.

If you have any questions remaining them please ask them in the comments below.

I look forward to publishing your article…
